Silverman Sherliker in the Community: Fund Raising Award

|
In a previous edition of the ewire, Chris Elwell-Sutton, a trainee solicitor in the firm, gave an account of the 40 miles St Albans Charity Cycle Ride (SACCR) which took place on 16th May this year.
Richard Pearlman now relates the fundraising results from the event. |
A team of 17 Silverman Sherliker LLP cyclists took part in the ride, which was the biggest squad ever for us. About 10 were members of the firm, with rest constituting "associated persons", who were very welcome too. In fact, this was my fifth annual entry in the event.
We won the Business Team Award, a silver-ish cup, for the third year running. This is awarded to the team which raises (and pays) the most sponsorship money and completes the course, mostly 40 miles each. I was told that our team raised £3,417, which was increased to around £4500 by Gift Aid and the JustGiving supplements.
This was a very pleasing result in these difficult times, and hats off to both the riders and the sponsors who supported us all. I was invited to a ceremony at St Albans Town Hall in the Mayor's Parlour on 14th July to collect "our" cup (again) and to try to keep it clean for another year.
As a souvenir of that event, we have included a picture of the return of our cup, duly engraved. Deloittes won it six times before us, so perhaps there is a record to beat. SACCR 2011 will be on Sunday 15th May 2011. Entries are accepted by me now for next year's team.
No prizes will be awarded for captions to the photograph though!
