In some instances, when the Will is not found, the estate will be deemed intestate. Or alternatively, the estate could be administered in accordance with an earlier Will.
Either scenario means that the wishes of the person who has died are not honoured and intended beneficiaries may never see a penny of their intended inheritance.
And imagine the mess you could face in having to rectify an incorrectly administered estate when the correct Will is finally discovered!
Until recently there has been no effective means of registering this vital document.
However, we have now been appointed Members of the UK’s National Will Register. Endorsed by the Law Society, the National Will Register provides a Will registration and search service, addressing the problems so often incurred when trying to trace the whereabouts of a Will, and ensuring that locating the Will is easy.
The National Will Register does not physically hold your Will (we will), but instead retains the necessary contact information in a secure and confidential database that you or your family can access at anytime. As your solicitors, we continue to be responsible for arranging for the secure storage of your Will ourselves, which we do free of charge.
All you need to do is send us your Will and we can deal with the registration at the National Will Register on your behalf. It would usually cost you a fee of £25 to register, but we are currently offering to register your Will for you completely free of charge.
So peace of mind and certainty will cost you nothing.
