Meet James Lakeland Ltd: contemporary, wearable, glamorous fashion with a twist

Womanswear designer James Lakeland, brother of Silverman Sherliker partner Nick, started his own fashion label at the age of 25, having previously gained experience at his father’s Italian manufacturing business.

Fifteen years on, the label has its own definite James Lakeland look, branding itself as contemporary, wearable, glamorous fashion with a twist.

Manufactured entirely in Italy, his collection is created to be sophisticated – even on the casual side, the clothes have an element of glamour – with a look that flatters a variety of shapes and ages. The twist comes from the colours and fabrics used.

Featuring prints, draping, pleating, doubled jersey and sculptured elements, the garments have been reviewed in a number of glossy fashion and women’s magazines, including Vogue, Tatler, Marie Claire and She, as well as The Sunday Times and the Mail on Sunday.

In addition to the main collection, James has also recently launched a higher-priced occasionwear sub-brand, James Lakeland Luxury, for those special occasions.

The company is still run very much as a family business, despite growing from the early days of just his mum and sister to now employing nearly 100 staff. As well as four standalone stores in South-East England and Glasgow (with two more stores to open soon in Central London), there are over 15 concessions in House of Fraser and other independent stores across the UK and Ireland.
